Q:

How can I keep my acrylic products clean?

A:

Use only warm soapy water and a soft cloth to clean any acrylic panels.

To prevent permanent any possible damage avoid contact with any solvent-based liquids.

Q:

How do I put up an acrylic poster kit?

A:

Take a look at our video on how to fit a poster kit:-

Take one panel and position in desired location on wall, using the panel as a template, mark the centres of each hole onto the wall.

Drill holes as required for appropriate wall fixings and insert plugs if required.

Separate each wall mount into its three components. Fix the brass inner barrel to the wall using appropriate screws.
Screw the outer barrel over the brass inner barrel.

Remove protective film from both panels and position poster centrally on the back panel. (It may help to use a few pieces of double-sided tape on the back of the poster to prevent movement).

Place front panel over poster, hold both panels together and align panel holes with the pre-fixed barrels.

Screw the front caps through both panels into the outer barrels until hand tight. Do not over-tighten as this may damage the acrylic panels.

Q:

Q:

Q:

How Strong is Polycarbonate when glued?

A:

Although Polycarbonate is extremely tough and has excellent impact resistance, it is surprisingly sensitive to crazing from solvents.
Cyano Acrylate, although inert once set has a high level of solvent when in its liquid state which can lead to crazing. Bostik Extrufix is probably the best adhesive for general purpose butt and mitre joints. It dissolves the surfaces enabling fusion to occur and then evaporates to leave a strong and water resistant joint. Remember though that no joint will ever be as strong as the original parent material.

Q:

Can I drill holes in my acrylic?

A:

Acrylic is easily cut, drilled and saw using ordinary DIY tools however be careful when drilling acrylic as it can easily go wrong and crack the panel rendering it unusable! Acrylic is relatively soft yet quite brittle when drilling. Standard geometry jobber drills can be used but tend to drag themselves into the material rather than cutting cleanly. The secret is to apply very light pressure so that it cuts rather than drags! If you have a diamond file, just take the sharp edge off the bit with a very small flat. If trying to open up an existing hole, use a step drill. Using a standard drill will almost certainly end in disaster!

Q:

How do you bend the Plastic?

A:

Thermoplastics like Acrylic and polycarbonate can be bent and formed by heating to a temperature just below their melting point.
There are some materials however that can be cold formed. PETG can be processed in much the same way as sheet metal if you do not have any heat bending capabilities.
Overbend the material slightly as it will have some spring back.

Q:

Why does my product have a blue or green tint when I ordered clear acrylic?

A:

In some cases we send our products out with a protective film on one or both sides.
This can make the acrylic appear to be coloured when in actual fact, it is not. Simply remove the film and you will find a perfectly clear acrylic underneath.

Q:

If I order a bespoke version of standard product how much will it cost?

A:

Often a sample of a bespoke product cost as little as 3 times the standard product costs. This is dependant on complexity.
If you are going to be ordering a volume of your product our sales team will work hard to satisfy your requirement as efficiently as possible.
One off print costs can be higher and will often add an additional sum of money.

Q:

Do you send out screws with your frame wall mounts?

A:

We do not supply screws which are required for securing the wall mounts on our acrylic frames.
You will need to decide on which screw to use, as these will be different depending on the type of wall that you will be mounting onto.

Q:

I have damaged my product - can it be repaired?

A:

If the product is made up of multiple parts that are screwed or riveted together then in most cases Luminati are happy to supply replacement parts.
Repairs are not generally possible on items which are glued together due to the risk of stress cracking on polished edges.
If you are unsure please send us some photos of the damage and we can assess it and recommend the most cost-effective solution.

Q:

Can I have my product customised with a logo?

A:

Luminati offers digital printing, screen printing, vinyl application and laser engraving and can match Pantone and CMYK references.
Please send us a file containing the artwork that you would like applying to your products and we will be happy to advise on the best solution.
