Cast Acrylic and Extruded Acrylic

Acrylic sheeting is the core of our businesses and is a incredibly versatile material.  Often referred to by a trade name Perspex, the plastic sheet is available in a variety of colours and finishes as well as clear. Acrylic sheet is available in cast acrylic or extruded acrylic.  It is the method with which these sheets are produced which leads to this classification even though they look visually very similar.

Extruded acrylic is produced by taking a plastic powder or granules and heating until molten.  This is then forced or extruded through a shaped opening called a die.  The material is then sized and cooled to retain its shape.

Cast acrylic is made by putting the plastic material into a mould or in the case of Perspex between two plates of glass.

Whilst the application will determine which type of acrylic is most suitable, they both benefit from being durable and long lasting, showing excellent resistance to natural ageing.
